LeBron James is in the Eastern Conference Finals
Published by The Cavalier May 18th, 2007 in NBA, LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, New Jersey Nets, Vince CarterLadies and gentlemen…the 2007 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, aka The Battle of the Distracted.

Okay, so LeBron gave you maybe a quarter and a half, but it was the correct quarter and half. Cavs beat the Nets in 6, and move on to face the Detroit Lasers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Contrary to how we’ve been so far in these Playoffs, we’re going to try and simply enjoy this. No, this is not because Scoop Jackson’s Feel-Good Attempt That Failed Because It Was So Melodramatic told us to - it’s simply because what else are we supposed to do?*
Oh, and one final farewell to Mr. Carter, who could’ve held in his emotions over losing the series a little more:

*Before we go full-bore enjoyment, one final moment of torment…NO, Cavaliers fans, you should not be satisfied with 50 wins, the 2 seed, and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. We don’t care if they haven’t been there in 15 years. They haven’t earned this, unless you think flimsy play, a level of focus that’s been measured at -14, terrible coaching, and general disinterest by LeBron since early November is worthy of praise. They’re here in spite of themselves.
Watch what happens if they play like they’ve been playing - they will get ROLLED.
THAT SAID, maybe they’ll continue to inexplicably play to the level of their competition, whether that be up or down. We really have no idea if they’re as good as the Spurs or as bad as the Knicks - they just play the same as whoever they’re playing against. They’re like Retarded Chameleons…vs Lasers…
Well…hello. Okay, let’s re-do the first sentence of this post:
Ladies and gentlemen…the 2007 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, aka The Cleveland Retarded Chameleons vs The Detroit Lasers, aka The Battle of the Distracted.
(We have no official predictions yet.)

It’s definitely time to let it ride & see what happens, man. The battery acid sloshing around, it’s not good for anyone.
Love the photoshops. You using Comic Life too?
who doesn’t love the Eastern Conference, huh? Fantastic!
You know, it’s easy to get on Lebron. I’ve got 6 messages on my phone tonight that are variations of “Please tell Lebron to take it to the hole”. The fact is, the Cavs have 1 great player and a bunch of role players. The great player is a 22 year old kid. Expecting him to provide true veteran leadership all the time is simply unrealistic. He’s an obscenely rich, self entitled kid, but he’s got his not-particularly-good team into the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Cavs had an easy road through the playoffs so far, but you know what? They’ve won. There’s plenty of other stars in the league who are sitting at home watching. Kobe, Wade, Garnett, McGrady, Yao, Melo, AI - none of them are still playing. Would I have preferred to see the Cavs blow the Wiz and Nets out? Of course. Are the Pistons a better team than the Cavs? Sure. All that said, they’re still playing, and they have a legit chance to make the finals. You can enjoy it, or you can whine that they don’t deserve it. Me, I plan to watch and enjoy. And probably swear a lot. Still, the Cavs are 4 wins away from the NBA Finals. That beats the shit out of the alternative.
Go Tribe!
matt I just use Photoshop, but people keep telling me about this Comic Life program…
As for LBJ only being 22, that doesn’t haold anymore - Magic was a 19-year old rookie, Shaq was 20, plenty of other guys were 21/22 and great leaders/focused in already. He’s past the “young guy figuring it out” stage as far as I’m concerned. “Play hard all the time” shouldn’t be something that comes with age.
Alas, I’m enjoying things, so i will not complain anymore, except sometimes or most of the time.
How’s this for some optimism you’d never expect from a Cleveland fan of 25 years:
Are the Lasers better than they were last year? Maybe. Are the Retarded Chameleons better than they were last year? Most definitely. And last year the Retarded Chameleons were one defensive rebound away from beating the Lasers in six, so… you never know.
50-32 record, same as last year. Roster, same as last year. Game plan, same as last year..
Cavaliers?, same as last year. Lasers in 5
5 =/= 7
Not the same as last year at all…
Comic Life is like $30. You can pull off that masterpiece from a few days ago in 15 minutes. (Not including brilliant content, I’m sure you spend a lot more time on that.)
It’s nice of Donyell Marshall to show up for one playoff game a year.
C’mon Cavs, gotta make it happen.
“who doesn’t love the Eastern Conference, huh?”
The answer to that would be: Most of the world.
Hopefully your Cavs will implement some type of game plan other that “Let Larry shoot 54 times” and “Isolate Lebron, Fadeaway from 20″. That might have been good enough to beat the horse vomit that is the Nets, but not against the Pistons-amanure. Shout outs to all the LIU people for finally getting that diplo’. It was an experience to say the least.
Is this it here? Am I correct that there isn’t a PC version?
LeBron seems like more of a Hufflepuff than a Griffindor, no?
Magic had Kareem. Done.
Yeah, I suppose it is a bit more than $30 if you have to buy a Mac too*. However, I just checked out Plasq’s site & they have a Windows beta of it. http://plasq.com/forum/comiclifewin
I don’t know how well it works, my understanding was that Comic Life takes advantage of all sorts of graphic trickery built into OS X to make everything real-timey.
It would make short work of your epic comic-layout Photoshops though (that’s why I asked if you use it- it’s totally the same style). It even does most of the filter effects you already do.
*actually bundled with new Macs
Young Magic? Young Shaq? Those aren’t role models! Shaq focused? You mean the guy everyone routinely slammed for doing too many movies and CD’s and not winning enough? Don’t you remember the Shaq blowback from the 90’s?
And as jjc58 said, Magic had Kareem. Also, Magic (1) threw his coach under the bus at LeBron’s age and (2) Got bounced in the first round by the Rockets his second year. No, I’ll take young LeBron over either of those. Now if you had said Michael or Larry, that might be a different story. But no way for those two guys.
That’s it. I can’t say with any authority that it doesn’t come in a PC version.
I just bought my first iMac a few months ago. Virus killed my PC. The Mac came with Comic Life.
Magic had Kareem, Worthy, Cooper, and Pat Riley
LeBron has Anderson Varejao, Drew Gooden and Coach Mike
If the Lasers win this series 11 games to zero, Coach Flip will have a .500 winning percentage in the playoffs.
Wait Young Shaq was a bad example - I was trying to find examples of young guys who came in and had few problems right away. Even that doesn’t totally stand up under any scrutiny.
The real point I was trying to make (and it has nothing to do with who your teammates are or even whether you win or not) is that at any age, there’s no excuse for not trying your hardest. LeBron is four years in - he should be past any excuses for not going all out every game.
I agree in principle about the goings-all-outs, but I could offer you one Dwyane Wade and the things that are falling off on him as an arguement against such all-out evry game exertion. Perhaps doing just enough to get where they need to be and then killing it is the way to go. Of course, that involves some switch flipping that I’m not sure the Cavs are capable of. What you can’t argue is that the Cavaliers have made it this far in the postseason without any significant injuries. Noteworthy!
True, but wouldn’t it be nice if we hadn’t lost a few of those gimmes to the Knicks, et al - we’d have homecourt advantage right now…
Point well taken (about playoff seeding).
That said, if we pulled LeBron back to 38 minutes a game and outlaw the zone defense, I bet 50% of the “LeBron sleepwalks” criticisms would disappear. Fact is, we can’t take the dude off the court.
By the way, how come no one is ragging on Jason Kidd of absolutely sucking in the fourth quarter? He’s tired? Come on, since when do professional athletes get a free ride when they run out of gas…
If teams played a zone on Magic, essentially through a box-and-one, and you took away his teammates’ production, I’d bet Magic would be shooting jumpshots as well… And despite his performance in his last All-Star Game, Magic couldn’t shoot either.
It’s always good to see the Nets treated properly, with contempt and a healthy dose of abusive photoshop.
Comic Life is a fun and useful program. You would love it.
Hey Scoop, you missed: “Life is short, steal something from the Cavalier.”
My prediction:
Lasers: 4
Retarded Chameleons: 1
just curious…. detroit lasers? i don’t get it.
