The Draft Lottery is exciting

Ask 14 NBA fans what event they’re looking forward to the most this evening, and odds are 14 will tell you “NBA Draft Lottery”.

What’s curious (or not) about that is the other NBA-related event going on tonight – Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals between San Antonio and Utah.

Logic dictates this should be the more significant event, but with college stars and potential franchise players Kevin Durant and Greg Oden* up for grabs…it’s simply not.

Anyway, let’s look at some potential storylines for this evening and decide which of the following is the biggest one.

1) Memphis gets the #1 pick.
2) Boston gets the #1 pick.
3) Atlanta gets the #1 pick.
4) Indiana gets the #1 pick.
5) Chicago gets the #1 pick (via New York).
6) Phoenix gets the #4 pick (via Atlanta).
7) Minnesota gets the #1 pick.
8) Michael Wilbon vomits on-air.
9) Sacramento gets the #2 pick.
10) Boston gets the #4 pick.

We’d argue that only real widespread national interest are numbers 2, 5, and 10, with #10 actually being the biggest story.

Seriously, what would be written about more? The Celtics getting the #1 or 2 pick, or the Celtics not getting one of them? We can only speak for ourself, but we’re much more likely to write for days on end about the latter.

Celticsblog will be getting refreshed every ten seconds following the lottery no matter what, and probably every five second if say, Atlanta gets the #1. We don’t even know how to refresh Hawks blogs – they’re like a foreign language. But Boston Celtics fans being distraught?

That’s like English. It’s just like English. The language we speak.

And the language we read.

And hey – Boston fans. Worry not, this kid is all yours in 2017! It’s meant to be!

* We read somewhere that Greg Oden just had 11 cavities filled! Buyer beware!

Don’t worry, even Spurs fans don’t really care about these Western Conference Finals: http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/basketball/nba/spurs/stories/MYSA052107.03X.BKNspurs.notebook.3529103.html

dude, the celtics are getting the league’s next great dentist – TONIGHT. Yea! It’s good to hear that he aspires to be a dentist and not the next bill russell or anything

you coulda put in this post that “the celtics rule!” and you’d still get the hate posts from the celtics’ fans.

paul pierce is still overrated, I’d take Tayshaun Prince over him anyday.

bill simmons might write his next book on the results of tonight’s lottery. a book or, at least, his next 10 columns. either would be bad, seeing how there are a few people here and there who don’t live in Boston.

Tayshaun Prince over Paul Pierce. Classic.

This Boney character is quite the humorist. Does he have a blog?

I don’t know if you guys like those “statistics” things, but according to ESPN.com Pierce has averaged a tidy 24.9 ppg versus the Pistons, who routinely check him with…Tayshaun Prince.

C’s (Oden/Durant) = SUCCESS (moreso than in the past few years, at least).

Paul Pierce.. the fifth Piston! (see: the 2006 All-Star Game)

I like Boney a lot more since he’s quit responding to EVERYTHING with “But the Detroit Lasers won the NBA championship in 89,90, and 04!”

what are the chances of oden falling to 5?

Not very good, Dave.

Celtics fans… your tears… they are so sweet.

:::Insert Nelson’s (from the Simpsons) laugh here:::

It’s funny, I said “wow” out loud when the C’s got #5 and Portland got #1.

I know the draft is exciting but honestly I don’t care anymore

The NBA: “I love this game, but not anymore”

With the wonderful handling of the officiating in the NBA in general I believe its time for the fans to take action. For those who watched the Suns / Spurs series I must say that it had the worst officiating in the history of professional sports. At least in the opinion of myself and many others. I could give a laundry list of examples but this isn’t a gripe email. The fact is that to win a championship in the NBA you must not possess skill, speed, or ability. You must possess thugs to hammer better players to the ground. You must beat the crap out of your opponents, and you must use third string players to hammer superstars in front of their bench. This is what makes a champion in the NBA. Sad but True.

The rules are enforced to favor the teams that approach this style of full contact basket ball. I’m not watching basket ball, I’m watching the old Arnold Schwarzenegger movie The Running Man, except the good guy looses.

I personally am going to boycott the NBA until further notice. This is no longer a game of skill that centers around putting the ball in the basket. It is a boxing match that centers around the strategy of how to most effectively hit and assault the other team. My personal message to David Stern… “I love this game, but not anymore”

Boycott the NBA. National “Boxing” Association

over/under on amount of days go by that the league cares about your “self impose” boycott?

/- never

I guess Phoenix fans are going to whine all next year like the Mavs’ fans did this year. The worst thing about it is… I’m surprised they haven’t come out with some sort of “conspiracy” about first it was the suspension of Stoudemire and now the league rigged the lottery so they couldn’t get Atlanta’s pick and how next season the league will make sure Atlanta makes the playoffs so Phoenix’ pick is even lower!

I’m buying what you’re selling
