durant1.jpg(Jack Cobra reporting for duty on Friday. I’ll be gone all day, so I’ll leave you with two posts to discuss until The Cavalier comes in.)

Everyone is going to be coming out with their ‘Winners/Losers of the Draft’ and the ‘Grading the Draft’ posts today, so I’m going to stay away from that (at least in this post). I find them really easy to do and fairly boring to read. If you enjoy those things though, they won’t be hard to find. You’ve also probably watched Sports Center already or read about the draft somewhere else, so I’m not going to give you a pick by pick breakdown. I like to think of you guys as fairly quick on your feet, so I’m not going to insult your intelligence. I’m also not going to talk about who wore what suit or how someone’s Mom looked. I’m not shallow like that.

What I will do is talk about how impressed I am already with the rookie class coming into the NBA. In years past it seemed that you would rarely hear a player who was about to be drafted talk about winning championships when they were interviewed. Maybe it had something to do with the cohesiveness surrounding the San Antonio Spurs, the Florida Gators players who were drafted and the two dudes from Ohio State who have played together their entire life; but it seemed like this year, more than ever, players came into the draft wanting to win championships instead of talking about buying cars/houses/etc. I really enjoyed that during the weeks leading up to the draft and the interviews after the draft.

Of course, some of these guys may have just been talking like politicians; saying what people wanted to hear…..but it just seemed like there was a change in the way these players were thinking about their careers in the NBA. This past regular season was kind of a downer and there were quite a few moments in the playoffs that made me fall asleep, but I have to say that I’m really looking forward to the energy and excitement that these rookies are going to be bringing to the NBA for the 2008 Season.

They are all just saying that they want to win Championships because with Championships comes more endorsements, cars, houses, and of course money.
