(Jack Cobra, once again)

Maybe I’ll get yelled at for this post, maybe I won’t. It still has to be said. When I got out of line as a kid my Dad would yell at me. Consider this me yelling at you…..

To say you are ‘just happy to be in the Finals’ is completely the wrong mind set to be in. Now, I don’t read any other sites that cover the Cavaliers, so are all the Cavs fans this way? Do you realize you have never been to the Finals before? Ever. Do you realize, even though you have LeBron…..that this could be the last time you go to the Finals? I know that seems like a far fetched idea right now, but it’s possible. It has happened before.

I’m not saying don’t be happy. Be happy, be very happy. Your team earned the right to be here. Don’t be content though. Don’t ever be content with just being at the dance. What the Hell is that? Where does that even come from? Someone explain that to me please. Are you worn out from the Eastern Conference playoffs and the ups and downs of the regular season? Suck it up, you have all off-season to regroup.

The last couple of days I’ve been reading in the comments about how you guys are just happy to be here and I try to understand where you are coming from. See, I’m a huge Chicago Cubs fan. I don’t know anyone who was even alive the last time they made the World Series. So, I have to think about how I would feel if they finally made it and I truly believe I would be happy, but I would be pretty intense about it all until they sealed the deal with a championship. I’ve waited too long and put too much effort into rooting for that team to just be content with making it to the final series. Haven’t you done the same?

Look, you guys are great and it’s hard to find better basketball fans than you. Don’t let down your guard though. There are only six games left in this basketball season. Six games. Don’t you think you can kick it up a notch or two? Maybe find your second wind?

Agreed! I will take it higher! TO THE ROOF!

One thing though- and this is just a quick psychoanalytic lowdown on Cleveland sports fans- we have been set up for disappointment so many times, that to have witnessed even this modicum of success we need to feel some level of satisfaction in it. In this series our Cavs are such tremendous underdogs that we can’t work up a lot of emotional juice yet because we feel it’s not worth getting it all squeezed out for what might very well be a clinical San Antonio beat down. However- if the Cavs can show us something- ANYTHING- to pin our hopes to you can bet we’ll be ride that train as far as it’ll take us. I think they can do it.

YOU HEAR ME YOU MOTHER FLUFFERS?!? DO IT!!!

Hint to Jack Cobra - the Cleveland baseball team with a racist name has lost 3 World Series since a win in 1920. It’s probably safe to assume Cleveland sports fans who don’t huff the fumes off Lake Eerie remember those losses (the 90s losses anyway), and wouldn’t be thrilled with 2nd place.

Do you think when Boney goes out to the bars to pick up women he gets all down on himself because he already knows what’s going to happen? Nope. He goes out there, gives a full effort and has a good time anyways.

I dunno- that may qualify for being “just happy to be there”. Because really, that’s all he’s got.

  5. 5 Jack Cobra

True, probably not the best example. Just trying to cheer the guy up.

    Let’s get him a hooker!

I am JHTBT, but I was also just really angry last night and would be greatly disappointed if they lose the series. Even though it doesn’t make one bit of difference to the outcome of the games. (Unless I somehow score tickets and my yelling would actually be audible to the players.)

Anyway, saying all that JHTBT is just a defense mechanism against a sweep. “Hey, we swept you.” “Sorry, just happy to be here.”

“Anyway, saying all that JHTBT is just a defense mechanism against a sweep. “Hey, we swept you.” “Sorry, just happy to be here.””

When they say, “Hey, we swept you.” I prefer the, “Sorry, I just punched you in the nose and stole your girlfriend” method instead. That’s just me.

  9. 9 Boney

nice Jack, real nice. Appreciate it.

I want to be clear that I spend four quarters yelling and cheering and yelling … the “cool to be here” sentiment isn’t reflective of some deep-seated neurosis.

  11. 11 Jack Cobra

We kid because we care Boney.

  12. 12 The Cavalier

The mind of the Cleveland sports fan is a delicate and intricate thing. Not easily understood.

Chicago, Boston, et al can say they understand our pain, but they don’t. Most of us have never known any kind of championship. While you can bring up the Cubs as a parallel, your pain had to also be salved to some extent by the Bulls and Bears.

  13. 13 Jack Cobra

Actually the Bulls and Cowboys (I hate the Bears) might make my point better. When they won championships shouldn’t I have been even more content when they made it back to the title game? Like they had already won, so it really didn’t matter as much this time?

My point is….when your team is there, on the brink, with a chance to win…you have to be there to win it. You have to be completely committed to destroying the opposition (sounded like a war movie?).

    The Spurs suck.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers are of higher quality in talent and intelligence.

    (is that better?)

  15. 15 Jack Cobra

your sarcasm is very evident gk.

  16. 16 TVBrain

All day long I watched the coverage that said the Spurs are a dynasty that would roll to their 4th title and cement their place in history, all while reading complaints that all anyone’s talking about is LeBron. When lone voice in the wilderness, Greg Anthony picked the Cavs I nearly dropped my tongue.
I hate the Spurs. I want to crush them. I believe we can win. I will scream until this is over. I’m not just happy to be here. I want my championship t-shirt.

Jack, I think I’m still offended.

I’m casting my vote for MCBias as a write-in… and if he’s not able to be written in, I will campaign for MCBias for next year’s tournament of hotties contest…

  18. 18 Don Paco

Actually, it’s more likely that “there are only three games left in the basketball season. Three games.” Or maybe, “there are only four games left in the basketball season. Four games.”

Was that a cheap joke? Unfunny and insensitive? I’m sorry. But it was just begging to be made.

  19. 19 Boney

    Spurs in 4.

  20. 20 Boney

Much to the chagrin of TVBrain, Spurs in 4.

  21. 21 Tucker

    Go Pistons

  22. 22 TVBrain

You know, after the Pistons eliminated the Cavs last year, I didn’t hang out at dbb.com or n4s.com and bother Pistons fans during the NBA Finals. (Oh, that’s right… I’m sorry.)

This will teach you to root for your team!
