He Shall Lead Them Like Moses, err…Rondo

(It’s Friday and Jack Cobra is back. You knew this post was coming, didn’t you?)
If you’ve been keeping an eye on this site the past couple of days you know that I’ve been going a little Rajon Rondo crazy. I apologize for that. The problem is that I just can’t help myself. Mr. Rondo is the best point guard player in the NBA and soon enough you will all come to find that out. You might try to hide from this, but in time you will not be able to.
When you think of skinny guards who don’t shoot well and are erratic passers who do you think of? Jamal Crawford maybe? Well, Rajon is going to make you forget who Crawford is. Check that, because of Rajon….Crawford will have never existed. He will strike Crawford and any memory of Crawford from this Earth. He has that kind of power. Actually, you know how during the NBA Season there are always people who are ranking players by position? That’s not going to be needed this season. Since Rajon is going to be playing Point Guard and Center for the Boston Celtics, he is going to be beyond those rankings. There will be no reason to even compare him to John Stockton, Magic Johnson, or Michael Jordan…..there is only one person you can compare Rajon Rondo to, and that’s Moses.
I’m not going to be all biblical on you or anything, but much like Moses led those people through the desert to the promised land, Rajon will lead the Celtics to the promised land. It will be difficult at the end of the season as the Celtics are battling for that vaunted 7th playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but don’t fear…..Rajon will be there to lend a helping hand and make sure everything goes as planned.
There are people we look up to in life, maybe they help motivate us, maybe they give us a pat on the back from time to time and let us know that even though our dreams of participating in the 2008 Olympics as a synchronized swimmer may be dwindling…..there is still a reason to live. Today, that reason is Rajon Rondo.

Fixed.
I do what I can
Even if that includes showing me no love at the Cobra Brigade. Yeah, I said it.
I put your link up in the comments over there……best i could do, boat had already left the dock!
Ok, I guess I will call back the flying monkeys and stop my intifada against the Cobra Brigade. All is forgiven … until next time. I still want a t-shirt .. er, rondo.
if rondo is truly to be compared to moses, then we all have to realize (with great pain and angst, i’m sure) that after leading the celtics to the promised land, rondo will not be permitted to enter with his teammates… probably due to a tragic injury.
from that point on, whenever an athlete injures or puts himself in harms way for the good of the team, it will be called, “pulling a rondo.”
Wow, that’s a very good point. After leading his teammates to the promised land I’m sure Rondo will enter a realm of enlightenment never before known to the human race. So, he’s got that going for him too.
Whoa, Crawford may be an erratic shooter, but at least he can hit a jumper. Even bang down a three. And he finishs his FTs like a big boy should.
To put Rondo’s crappiness into proper context - not only is he a worse FT shooter than Crawford, I think Eddy Curry can hit FTs better than Rondo. I do know that Eddy Curry is a better 3pt shooter than Rondo. That’s a fact.
If anything, think of Rondo as a Eddy Curry minus his torso.
and the bill at Old Country Buffett…
Crawford sucks, he shot 40% from the floor last year. I will give you the FT% point though, I didn’t check that out previously. They are both skinny dudes who dribble too much…we’ve been over this before somewhere. someone find that please, i don’t want to type it again. we broke it all down once before.
Yea Crawford shits on Rondo. Jamal hits game winners making him more swagtastic.
watch crawford much his first two years in the league? It was like watching bambi try to walk on that ice. sad
I actually think Scalebrine will lead us with career highs in all categories.
Predictons:
PPG: 82.9
RPG: 35.7
APG: 29.4
BPG: 98.8
SPG: 27.2
jamal crawford and rondo? huh? i know this blog is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but why would you compare two players who are exact opposites?
crawford = offensive minded shooting guard who plays no defense
rondo = defensive minded point guard who is absolutely terrified to shoot.
i mean, both players are fatally flawed in EXACTLY opposite ways.
sorry, but the fact that they have the same body type and skin tone does not make them similar players.
also, is rondo REALLY prone to making erratic passes? is this something you know, or something you just pulled out of your ass?
silence, just because jamal crawford is offensively minded doesnt make him any better at shooting. who said anything about skin tone. racist
Lucky….these things I know. When comparing Crawford’s first season (or two) in the league with the Bulls with Rondo’s makes them similar. Then again, Rondo is everything to everyone so he wins there. Stick your tongue in your cheek on that one, yo
Jack Cobra face it… you’re a bigot…
why don’t you just tell us that Rondo and Crawford can both jump really high too because they’re black. bigot.
i never said he was a bigot, and i think its kind of retarded to imply that i did. my point was that its lazy to compare two players just because they happen to have a physical resemblance to each other, which they obviously do. i dont see any actual similarities in their games.
Obviously not, because my game is on another level.
lucky, if you compare rondo now with crawford at the same point in his career they are very similar players. when crawford came into the league, he did so as a point guard. I could go on and on about how frustrating it was to watch as a Bulls fan but I’ve come to the conclusion that you would prefer to argue, so I’ll abstain at this time.
Man, are you in for a nasty surprise this year, Jack. From what you’ve been writing, it seems that all you know about Rondo is what you saw on his NBA.com page. If you had been even a little bit smart, you might have poked your nose around into a site like 82games.com and found that Rondo led the Celtics in plus/minus by a wide margin. That they gave up 8.3 fewer points per 100 possessions when he was on the court (that’s a lot if you didn’t know). That they got slammed just about every second that he wasn’t on the court, but that they were OK with him in there.
If you actually knew how to use NBA.com’s statistical data base, you might have known that Rondo shot 47% as a starter, from the field, scoring 10.7 ppg in the process. He started 25 games. That he shot 55% over the last 10 games while scored 13.0 points per game. That he hit 23 of his last 25 free throws. That he averaged 5.8 assists, even though he usually didn’t have anyone to pass to and Doc’s system takes the ball out of the point guards hands a lot, and always has. That he averaged 2.1 turnovers per game in that time, while getting 2.4 steals. How many point guards get more steals than they turn it over? That he didn’t have a SINGLE game of more than 4 turnovers in the entire season, including the preseason. That he’s the best rebounding point not named Kidd.
If you had actually bothered to watch any Celtics games, you would have known that the Celts without Rondo in there, and the Celts with him in the game looked like two entirely different teams. That the Spurs resorted to double teaming him on inbounds passes, letting Delonte West take the ball down the court, because of how Rajon was picking their defense apart… he also had 14 rebounds in that game. That T.J. Ford would be extremely happy to never see Rondo again. That Celtics couldn’t buy a win during the 18 game losing streak, but that at the end of the season, while Rondo played with flotsam and jetsam, that Doc had to get really inventive in finding ways to lose ( tanking) because Rondo found a way to keep them in games that they should have been losing by 30 points.
Now he has a healthy Pierce and two fairly well known vets to work with (sarcasm). So when the talking heads are gushing with their praises for the kid, because they will finally be watching him in the national spotlight, I will really look forward to seeing your ” I was just joking” post. I’m going to enjoy watching you squirm.
Driving Bliss!
Don’t take them to seriously Mike…its an uneducated blog for uneducated fans. Sarcasm is the protest of the weak, and it permeates through their writing.
I guess my only question for Mike D is “how many of those games that Rondo put up all those stats, were the Celtics actually able to compete in?”. I mean, I can put up numbers against like Jacque Vaughn when my team is down 10 points in a game…
I hear ya, Rondo. The thing is that silence is equivalent to agreement in forums like these.
With regards to your point, Boney, if you actually saw the squad that the Celtics were putting on the court at the end of last season, you wouldn’t be asking a question like that. The Celts actually had to sign a D-Leaguer to have 8 guys in uniform for games. Not only were Pierce, Wally and Tony Allen out, but Al Jefferson missed 6 of the last 10 games that they played. In addition to that, Doc was actually tying to lose games. In spite of that, Rondo was able to keep them competitive. So much so that Doc was often forced to keep him on the bench as much as possible in the fourth quarter to keep them from winning.
He wasn’t scoring his baskets with little pressure being put on him. He was being keyed on by the entire opposing defense. In these games he was often the only real threat on the floor as he was the only one who efficiently create his own offense, and the others relied on him to set them up. Yet he scored efficiently. He passed efficiently too, even though he didn’t have much to work with. His defense was ridiculous. Rondo’s defense isn’t completely described by his steals, as he forces a ton of other turnovers and makes his man’s life very difficult, but the kid had a 6 steal quarter in one of those games. Six in a quarter!!! He’s one of the few guards that I have ever seen who can take a game over with his defense.
Now he will have a healthy Pierce (who he worked extremely well with last season), Ray Allen ( who is Rondo’s dream target, a dead-eye jump shooter who knows how to get open) and Kevin Garnett ( a guy who is going to love hitting Rondo on off the ball cuts) taking the heat off of him. All the kid really wants to do is set people up, defend and crash teh boards, but he can score. With those three on the court with him, he’ll be getting a lot of good looks. On the other end of the floor, he’ll be the one making them better. He wasn’t the only young guy on the team who Danny wouldn’t think of trading without a reason.
