millerdenied.jpg(Jack Cobra one last time on Friday. I wrote these on Thursday since I’m out of town, just so you guys would be entertained….comment away on that one.)

First, it needs to be said that I never liked Reggie Miller when he played in the NBA. I thought he was a whiner, he flopped his legs all over the place, he didn’t play defense and he talked a lot of trash for someone who never won a championship. That being said, I can’t ignore his statistics, the guy was a great shooter. Since he’s retired I’ve begun to like him a bit more for his insight and humor during/before NBA broadcasts….that was your disclaimer.

It’s been rumored that Mr. Miller is going to be coming back to the NBA to play for the Rondo-led Boston Celtics. I listened to the ESPNRadio interview between Dan Patrick, Miller and KG yesterday and I have to say that I think he’s coming back this season….This seems to be getting a lot of people excited around beantown….but they shouldn’t be.

Look, the guy could shoot, but that’s about it. He didn’t play defense, he couldn’t break anyone down off the dribble and he certainly couldn’t create his own shot. Go back and look at all of the tapes from when he played. Why did he score all of those points? Because the Pacers would run him off of numerous screens to get him an open shot. The majority of their offense was centered around him, that’s why he was able to score. This won’t happen in Boston.

If everything worked out perfectly Miller would come off the bench in Boston and play 16-20 minutes a night. With such a limited role there is no way the Celtics are going to have more than a handful of plays just for him and he’ll only be getting those plays called when Ray Allen, KG and Paul Pierce are all on the bench which should be…..never. So the situation he’ll really be in is a Jason Kapono deal/thingy where he comes off the bench and just shoots whenever he touches the ball. Kapono can do that because he’s young and at times he has a post player down low. Miller won’t be able to do that because he’s 1) old, 2) won’t have a post player, and 3) can’t get open without coming off of screens. It just wouldn’t make sense for the Celtics to design a bunch of plays just for Miller because it would take away from the rest of their offense.

Speaking of offense…that’s not where the major problem lies. Boston is a team without a defensive identity and next season they are going to put a lot of effort into establishing one (or at least they should be). For them to put an old guy out on the court who can’t guard anyone would go against….common sense. Uh oh.

So that is where the loophole is. Common sense…..that makes it easier to figure out what the Celtics will do I suppose.

I can watch Reggie Miller’s hopes and dreams all get rejected by Tayshaun in that play over and over and over again…

I don’t know what’s better…. Detroit beating the Lakers and having Karl Malone sit the remaining minutes of his career sulking on the bench

    or

Reggie Miller thinking he had a breakaway layup only to have been rejected by Tay.

Just for the hell of making this ‘awesome on paper’ Celtics team complete, Boston should attempt to get big Ben Wallace from Chicago. Or coax Rodman back, whatever.

  3. 3 JTExperience

The Celtics should just make their ENTIRE TEAM out of old(er) guys who just want a ring. Reggie, Garnett, Pierce, Allen, Pollard (heh)…they should sign Sam Cassell to mentor young Rondo.

Ok, I have t-minus 20 hours until our big “announcement”. Remember, a watched website never updates. Or is that a watched pot never boils? Or perhaps a watched Rondo never scores?

  5. 5 Jack Cobra

What big ‘announcement’ are you talking about Jordi?

  6. 6 Jordi

Jermaine O’Neal comes back on the 21st, right?

  7. 7 Jack Cobra

Oh, yeah, that’s right. good call.

I’m with Detroit Chris M.. but since we’re going to bring back former Pistons to play for the Cs, why not call James Edwards and Fennis Dembo out of retirement… we could also bring up Tree Rollins and Vinnie Johnson too

Please take Isiah. I know he would be forced to back-up Rondo, but please. Then I can submit my resume to the Knicks GM job, sign Ewing, Starks, and Oakley, and we can all party like its 1992.

I have started the boycott of this site……………………. now.

I just wish the Cavalier would take down that damned San Antonio Spurs congratulation.
That is reason #1 I haven’t been here.

Boney leaves with like 15 hours to the return of Jermaine O’Neal. He must learn patience. Without it he can never be a ninja. And that’s why nobody likes him.

  13. 13 STILLAJEW

Nobody likes Boney cause he’s a humorless prick who bags on any one who makes a comment that doesn’t post every 10 minutes. He went off on me one time cause the Suns wore purple and therefore could never win anything based on the color of the jersey and said I was an idiot for thinking other wise.

Just in case I wasn’t being clear enough, Boney = Douche bag.

fa·ce·tious /fəˈsiʃəs/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[fuh-see-shuhs] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective 1. not meant to be taken seriously or literally: a facetious remark.
    2. amusing; humorous.
    3. lacking serious intent; concerned with something nonessential, amusing, or frivolous: a facetious person.

Did the Suns win this year? If not, then I believe that my proclamation holds some weight! Of course, if you also remember, douche, that I offered up a trivia question (albeit facetiously, scroll up for definition) asking anyone to name the last team to wear purple as a primary color that won anything… noone answered except for one rando who never comes here anymore, and he said LAKERS. So, calm down you know-nothing. Get it? Facetious = not to be taken seriously…
