While there’s plenty of material to mine in people calling out Isiah Thomas’ coaching ability during jury selection of his sexual harassment trial, we feel something of greater importance must be noted on this Tuesday.

No, not the fact that we’re posting on a Tuesday. That’s normal. (If this were early 2006.)

Number one overall draft choice and the future of the Portland Trailblazers, Greg Oden, is going in for knee surgery resulting from like cartilage problems or something. This after he got his tonsils yanked earlier this summer. The young man is clearly an addict.

The team from Oregon had the following to say.

Trail Blazers team physician Dr. Don Roberts will perform the surgery at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) taken last week showed Oden may have some cartilage problems in the knee.

A timetable for Oden’s return will be set following the arthroscopic surgery.

We don’t want to go into panic mode or anything - mainly because we’re not a Blazers fan, so that would just be awkward for everyone.

THAT SAID, our favorite thing in the world to do is panic, and when the future of NBA big men may not be able to play right away, we need to panic for the league we used to love.

We will all die of Greg Oden’s knee isn’t better by Tuesday. There, we said it. If he’s not running, jumping, prancing, dancing, shuffling around, blocking shots, making jokes, and being all like, “Hi, I’m Greg Oden and my knee feel great - I love basketball,” by this time next week, it’s game over.

Oh, and don’t think this panic-mode isn’t caused by Oden having surgery at a hospital sponsored by the cheapie airline, because that’s exactly what this is about.
