Brian Windhorst has weighed in on the “LeBron has been working on his jumper” story, which for us solidifies it as a real thing that’s actually happened.

(We live day-to-day in a world where nothing is real until Brian Windhorst says it is.* This makes the summer/NBA offseason a partcularly difficulty time.)

Anyway, it’s confirmed. LeBron has been working diligently with Cavaliers assistant/Ohio State alum Chris Jent on his jumper, and the results speak for themselves.

Heading into a game late Thursday night against Argentina, James was shooting better than any other player in the tournament. After shooting an incredible 11-of-11 and scoring 26 points in just the first half against Uruguay on Wednesday, James was making 80 percent of his shots and 70 percent (14-of-20) of his 3-point attempts.

‘I’ve been focused on the jumper,'’ James told reporters in Las Vegas. ‘’All I’ve been working on all summer is getting my jump shot better.'’

In most basketball leagues, 80% from the field and 70% from three is pretty good. And before you get all “the competition wasn’t great”, we didn’t see Kobe or Michael Redd or Melo or even Tyson freaking Chandler shooting 80% from the field.

When you look at those numbers, you kinda have to wonder how Luis Scola was named tournament MVP. Isn’t that like if LeBron had been Finals MVP against the Spurs last season?

We can’t say we’re all that upset or anything - it’s the Tournament of the Americas - it’s not like it’s the Academy Awards - or the NBA Finals - or the World Series - or the Super Bowl - or the Haha On You Michigan Round-Robin Classic - or the Who Can Use the Most Inappropriate Hyphens in One Sentence Championships.

One other thing we should add, although it’s far from necessary - if LeBron has a consistent jumper, he’ll like be really good and hard to stop and stuff.

* Brian - you’re welcome to use that quote on the jacket your upcoming LeBron/Cavaliers book.
