Yup, exactly. I personally also think that one has lots of perspectives and ideas when one starts blogging…and then we get dumber over time, because our perspective narrows. Something I forgot to toss into above comment.

So when you mention re-birth…should we look out for “naysports.com” where you do nothing but post about beanie babies and extreme ironing until you figure out what your next project is? Just kidding. I know, WSM? is the end of the beginning (or the beginning of the end), depending on how you look at things.

Any good artist finds times of diminished productivity and creativity, after which they must reinvent themselves. The problem is, their built-in audience constrains their creativity and forces them to remain in similar ruts, for fear of losing that community appreciation they have come to know and love. Thus, the blog grows stagnant (although often it takes a while for most fans to realize this), and dies a slow death over time. See: Bill Simmons and every blog I liked at the start of this year. Sigh.
