Well, surely by now you’ve read about Stephon Marblebury leaving the Knicks.
If you haven’t, here’s the deal – Stephon Marblebury left the Knicks.
“I have one thing to say, and that’s I got permission to leave. I would never leave my team on my own. What I’m telling you is that I got permission to leave from Isiah. He said I could go home. God bless. Peace be with you.”
That’s six things, but whatever.
We have to say we’re really glad this happened, because it’s something tangible we can actually write about.
You see, we said we’d be back Tuesday, yet we weren’t. This wasn’t because of lack of effort or being busy elsewhere, it’s just that we haven’t watched any NBA games in their entirety this season, and like if you even asked us who was doing good this year, we’d be at a complete loss.
Luckily, as we were writing this, Dan of DC BOGdom emailed a link to this Drew Gooden-Deshawn Stevenson beard-growing contest, wherein there was a small nugget we’ve requested he follow-up on.
It amazes us this wasn’t the main thrust of the piece.
I asked [Caron] Butler whether he would join Stevenson in bearded solidarity; “Nah, I had lasers,” he said. “I lasered the facial hair stuff off of me. I don’t want hair on my face.”
Keep in mind this is a guy who has the nickname “Tuff Juice”. We must know more about this process – we fully intend to laser any hair off our back if any appears, but the face? What happens if the moustache comes back in style, Caron?
Of course, many of you care not for beards and such – you want to know what we think of the Cavaliers. Roger emailed us the following:
I will not yet recommend repurchasing League Pass, but you’re a go for watching any nationally televised games/stumbling into a bar with the game on. (Are there sports bars in LA?)
There are moments of offensive stagnation, but they are the exception rather than the rule. And LeBron’s energy has been off the charts. He’s helped win games as much with his defense as offense. Hell, even Z is getting up and down the court like a champ.
(Of course all this is subject to change at any second – and that’s why there was a boycott in the first place.)
Yes, there are sports bars in LA – we went to one once – there were sports inside and everything.
As to the Cavaliers…as of today…and it’s pretty saddening to us…we really, truly think LeBron lost us last year with the non-effort. We hate saying it, but it feels as if it’s true. We’ve mentioned this before, but a couple things about us:
1) Our biggest pet peeve is people who don’t try as hard as they can, especially when they are gifted in any way, and this includes most pro athletes.
2) You get one chance with us. We don’t ever hold a grudge against anyone, but if you let us down, we’re pretty much done with you. It doesn’t mean we wish ill on you or don’t like you, it’s just that we can’t really say we’re in your corner anymore.
Don’t know what else to say – it’s pretty troubling as a Cleveland fan to have to write these words. It sank in the other day when we read some speculative article about LeBron playing in LA when his contract is up, and our reaction wasn’t the usual, “He wouldn’t!” and/or, “I’ll kill myself!” – it was a big, “Who cares?”
THAT SAID, who cares – we’re serious about that LA blogger thing, and time is of the essence. We’ve got nine slots left to fill.

No way in hell is LeBron staying unless they win a championship the next few years, and start a motherfucking dynasty by getting Chris Kaman & Jarret Jack or something.
Also; what kinda sports fan are you? Like, really; “buhu my team isn’t that good so I don’t care about basketball anymore!!”. That’s bandwagon-ish right there. Like how basketball was the worlds sport when MJ was doing his thing in the mid-90s and suddenly nobody cared anymore.
I’ve said this a million times – it has nothing to do with good/bad and everything to do with desire/effort.
I was in LA a few years ago, I went to a Tex-Mex place which also had sports on to watch the Redskins lose to the Eagles on Sunday “night” football. (I’m so envious of west coast time.) Two very attractive women who were quite possibly of Asian descent spent much of the game making out. I had the perfect view and my friend was mad at me because I refused to switch seats. So good football games, great weather, an ideal time zone and hot Asian lesbians is pretty much my impression of LA.

Damn West Coast bias….jerk
It’s beard season up here in the Midwest, and I’m rockin’ the Abe Lincoln style this winter.
you couldn’t tell if they were asian?
are you even sure they were women???
I know they were women, I’d honestly be guessing as to what their nationality was … I’m gonna go with hot
2) You get one chance with us. We don’t ever hold a grudge against anyone, but if you let us down, we’re pretty much done with you.
Meanwhile, Boney is on Yaysports boycott number 437.
Soooo, what if last year was an aberration for LeBron? You would give up 15 good years for one you thought was lousy? Only time will tell if he was simply dogging it or not – at least more definitively. I tend to think he rested some on offense because he was actually playing defense. Whereas, first couple of years it was the opposite.
Jordi,
I am on “Cobra Brigade boycott: #1″ right now.
Would you like me to add “The Serious Tip boycott: #336″ also?
He’s only boycotting because he’s making out with a chick that smells weird.
Cavs dynasty = Chris Kaman and Jarret Jack. Awesome.
BTW – Chris Sheridan has the Cavs trading Hughes for Starbury. Ugh.
I never said my “one chance policy” was rational or anything – it’s just the way my brain works. Look at all those girls I never talk to again ever – all because they liked tried to hold my hand too early or something!
You guys will come to realize at some point that I’m not altogether sane in any way whatsoever.
we love The Cavalier just the way he are.
Did any one see the Celtics game last night? Pierce gets fouled hard by Tinsley then scores 13 pts in 3 minutes and did push ups in between free throws to basically say FU to Tinsley. I only read about it, didn’t see it, but that’s pretty awesome if that really happened.
I didn’t see it, but then again, I wasn’t high off of the matzo ball soup either…
oy vay!
I’m not convinced LeBron wasn’t trying hard last year. Confused about what to do on offense, yeah. Frustrated, yeah. Trying to figure out how to take what the defense was giving, yeah.
I do think he turns it up a notch when he has the spotlight or is otherwise motivated. I don’t think he’s taking games off.
Ok well desire effort then. My point was that just because your team sucks you don’t care about basketball at all anymore is pretty lame. Kinda gives the impression that you were only on the Cavs because of James to begin with.
That’s a pretty uninformed opinion. Do I need to post the pics of me running around in Mark Price t-shirts as a kid?
The Cav is still bitter Mike Fratello is no longer the coach. Admit it, the fact that Brad Daughtry announces NASCAR confuses you. And when MJ hit “The Shot”, your hopes for Craig Ehlo, Superstar were over.
I had a Mark Price Dream Team jersey that I lost in a move. That still makes me sad. And, yes, LeBron undoubtedly took plays off last year. He had an awful habit of bringing the ball up, stopping at the 3-point line, doing a few tentative bunny hops, making a pass that kept the ball outside the arc and then fading away from it to watch the play unfold/unravel. This year’s version of LeBron is very encouraging to me but last year’s was – often – frustrating. Unquestionably some of that is due to the slack-jawed void of coaching that is Mike Brown. But LeBron is complicit in that.
I like how LeBron thinks he can make the decisions for the team now… a move to pickup Starbury would be an upgrade over the drivel that’s in place now…
Perhaps LeBron will strong arm the Cavs like ARod has done the Rangers and M’s
I like how there was all this talk about Starbury leaving the team and yet he still played that night.
*sigh*
i was really hoping for some nigh-hilarous commentary on phil jackson’s nigh-hilarious ‘brokeback’ comment.
Rumor has it Marbury and Isiah played a “brokeback” game and now Marbury is on the team again.
yeah, but who was penetrating and who was kicking it out?
Too easy.
Cavalier – you so crazy!
As to Marbury, LeBron said something like, “He will not be on my team.”
I had a poster of Price making a foul shot. I mean, highest FT% ever, but still kind of funny poster material. I wonder if I could get that on a fathead.
Ha, LeBron knows Ferry would never sign Marbury. He doesn’t have to strongarm anyone.
